Just think of a peacock. No images or videos. Just remember what a peacock looks like.

Do you find any flaws in this bird? No? Really? Why?

Does a peacock have no imperfections at all? Or do we never notice them because our perception shows us that this is the most beautiful bird we ever saw? A peacock evokes the same feelings of joy even if it is pure white.

So when we stand in front of the mirror, why do we see so many flaws? Who told you about these flaws? A bird who dances merely at the thought of rain is unconditionally beautiful and flawless. But a battered human who wins small and big battles daily is ugly?

So not fair!

Look back at where you started and what you have achieved so far. Look at the transformation you have made in your life. Aren’t you even a little proud of yourself? Why do you not see the twinkle in your eyes? Why do you not love how the sun shines off of your silver hair and gives you a halo? Why do you ignore the smiles you bring to the faces around you?

Count your blessings. Say thanks for each day. There is a lot of pain in this world. But there is also a lot of joy. The joy of impending monsoon. The petrichor of the earth. The wild winds and rushing rain. The way the whole world looks washed and green after rains.

It’s the small things which add on to become big events. Pile on the small joys. They will give you big celebrations. Say a small thanks daily. It will return multitude of platitudes in your life.

We are made of sunshine and stardust. Just see how beautifully we shine! Be a peacock and dance like there’s no tomorrow.
